“Life is better at the lake”
This quote is so true and especially for this family. Semi-recently they sold the home they raised their family in and purchased a retirement home on a lake in West Milford, NJ that their whole family now enjoys immensely! They have a beautiful yard and view of the water from their home and get to spend their days lounging lake-side, creating in their art studio/wood shop and going canoeing every evening with their dog. Seems like the perfect life to me – especially when the grandkids come to visit!
This extended family portrait session was a gift to the family from Ben & Francesca who have been friends of mine since college and who I’ve photographed many times. When they suggested taking the portraits at the lake house I was so excited because I had the same idea! The afternoon we got together turned out to be a beautiful and warm summer day, which was a surprise because the forecast called for rain! We took portraits of different groupings near the lake, by the wood shop, on the front porch, and ended the session with candids of the family making smores and taking their daily canoe ride on the lake. Each of the family members coordinated outfits beautifully with a mix of neutral color tones and blues. And I feel that incorporating their lake house and property into the backdrop of the photographs makes the final family portraits even more special! These photographs will surely be treasured for years to come!
