Somebody is turning ONE this week and had an epic cake smash to celebrate!

Her mom planned an amazing Rosie the Riveter theme to coincide with her Halloween costume as well as her 1st birthday party. We used handmade props (some from etsy and some handmade by mom, herself!) in the colors of yellow, blue, and red to give off that Rosie the Riveter theme without being too literal and recreating the iconic image.

I met them at their home in northern NJ and we set up my studio in their kitchen. We started with some first birthday portraits and saved the cake smash for later. She loved getting her photo taken, smiling big and laughing the whole time.

Towards the end of her portraits she got curious about my camera and I was able to get a few awesome photos of her peering into the lens with her big, beautiful, blue eyes as she crawled over towards me! <3

Next, we set up the cake for the big smash! This cake was handmade by her mom and came out absolutely beautiful (and delicious!) You can see in the first few photos that she was unsure if this was a trick or not and seeked permission from her parents standing nearby to dig in. She slowly dipped one finger in and then eventually decided she needed more and dove face first right into it! haha

The cake was delicious and she decided she really enjoyed this experience! Look at her huge cake-filled smile!

What an epic cake smash! I had so much fun with this little one and her family that day.

I’m wishing you a very Happy 1st Birthday this week! <3
