This family portrait session was honestly such a dream! I enjoyed every second of it.

See, I went to high school with Corey – this awesome mama! We sat together at lunch and I vividly remember how much she loved to sing. When we reconnected at this photo shoot she told me that she remembers me always having a camera in my hand. It’s been over ten years (ack! Where has the time gone?!) since high school and since we’ve seen each other. In that time she has met the love of her life, started a singing career, and then chose to marry her love and start a family – having these two amazing little humans. Now, together, they own their own business and are living a wonderful life with their little family nearby where we all grew up.

It was so great to catch up with my childhood friend and spend the night photographing her family. Their son is a total ham for the camera, whereas I had to pull the smiles out of their daughter a little bit, but it wasn’t hard.

Before the session Corey told me that they wanted more candid photos during their session and gave me some insight about her kids and family. One of the coolest things she told me is that her son, Sky, started his own YouTube channel called “Sky’s World“. He documents their family outings with his camera, and Corey edits the videos down and puts them on YouTube for him. She told me she’d love to get some headshots of him that she could use for his videos. I thought this was honestly the coolest thing ever and encouraged him to bring his camera along.

She told me, “We are firm believers in giving your dreams a reality and making it a goal…” so they happily encourage their son to follow his dreams of being a kid vlogger and YouTuber. Just look at these photos below – Sky LOVES making his videos! He was so excited and it was such a joy to watch him in action. Definitely click the link above and check out some of his videos! You’ll love them!

We spent our evening walking around Waterloo Village, looking for awesome little spots to take portraits. It wasn’t hard! The entire grounds there are breathtaking. This little bridge in particular was so cool!

This beautiful old building made a great backdrop for many of the family portraits.

A good ‘ol tickle fight in the middle of the session never disappoints! I love these photos!

Sky was so sweet to his younger sister. You saw in the first photo how he gently held onto her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Here, he walked her around helping her as she went. If you can believe it, she just learned to walk a month before our session! Seeing these two together was so cute! I think when they’re older they’ll cherish these photos.

We ended our session playing around at this stone building while the sun was setting. Just in time for dinner together at cracker barrel! <3 I love it when my clients become family like that!
