Backyard portrait sessions are my favorite and this one was exceptional! Why?! Well, first of all, they fed me pizza as soon as I got there! But if you need more reasons… I got to play games with the kids for a while to get them laughing and warmed up to the camera and we had so much fun, there was BEAUTIFUL light (photographers dream, here), and since I’ve known one of these two families since I was 18 and have photographed them a few times already it was really easy to find our groove and capture some great family portraits together. <3
We planned this portrait session to create photographs of both Jackie and Laurens families together which would become a gift for their parents who would be celebrating their vow renewal in August. I am always an advocate of family portraits as gifts, because I know how special a printed photograph is and how much their parents would love to have photographs of their grandkids!
We got together and had the portrait session in one of their backyards in Bergen County, NJ on a beautiful and hot summer evening. The sun was glowing through the trees and made for an amazing backdrop for their session. Everyone wore an outfit with navy blue and neutrals and they all looked fabulous coordinating together in this way! Knowing our main goal of the portrait session was to get a great photo of the three kids together we started with that, then the full family portrait and then broke into individual family portraits.
