I’m always suggesting that families choose a personal location to use as a backdrop for their portraits. I believe years from now the photos will bring up all the special memories made at that location, which is, after all, the power of a good photograph! In fact, I wrote a whole “manifesto” if you will about the topic, chock full of my own childhood memories and photos if you’d like to see me as a bleach-blond toddler. {{Why you should consider taking your family portraits at home}}

Taking my advice, this family chose a location that was even more beautiful than I could have imagined. We met at the kids church pre-school, a place that means so much to both of the girls, the whole family, and the entire community based on the sweet stories they shared with me. The wooded grounds and gardens made a gorgeous backdrop, especially with the glowing evening sun shining down. We ended the photo shoot with a reward: playing in the girls favorite tree. (I just love when others also have favorite trees!) You’ll see why this is their favorite – she has such amazing branches to climb on!

Some of my favorite aspects of this portrait session are the genuine love and laughter, the bandaids left on the youngest ones knees, the playful interactions (that you’d never know were staged – my magic trick), and of course that wondrous sun!

I’m so excited to share these highlights with you!
